Yom HaShoah – Holocaust Remembrance Day

28 April 2014

Last night I attended a moving commemoration marking 70 years since the destruction of Hungarian Jewry in the Shoah (Holocaust). The testimony delivered by child survivor Mr Peter Kolliner OAM questioned how his parents were unable to foresee the destruction that was to be unleashed on 90 percent of Hungary's thriving Jewish population of 700,000.

As a student organisation that strives to strengthen and develop Jewish identity on campus, this week the Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS) asks the question, "How do students react to racial vilification on campus?" through a video campaign. The campaign serves as a reminder that we should never become complacent, even in 2014.

I invite you to view and share our video

Since its release late last night, the video has reached over 17,000 views on Facebook, and has been viewed more than 600 times on YouTube.

Please also find attached our media release and plans for commemorating the Shoah over the coming week.

I look forward to hearing your feedback on the campaign.

Best wishes,

Stephen Machet
