2017 AGM - President's Report & Annual Report

20 November 2017

2017 has in the most part been a positive year of the Victorian Jewish Community and the JCCV.

The JCCV has successfully advocated for the Jewish Community in Victoria, building on existing strong relationships with State and Local Government, Government Instrumentalities, NGO’s, the media and the wider Victorian community, including its many ethnic and faith based communities. The JCCV is seen by the Government as role model for many of these groups.

The JCCV has strengthened our community by implementing initiatives in the area of mental health and drug and alcohol abuse amongst young people, while continuing its emphasis on social inclusion.  Holocaust commemoration remains one of the organisation’s core activities.

While generally Victoria continues to provide a safe and welcoming environment for the Jewish Community, at the start of the year the Community was impacted by the tragic event which occurred in Bourke Street on Friday 20 January, when 6 people were killed, including Thalia Hakin (of blessed memory) a 10 year old student at Beth Rivkah Ladies College.
