As president of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV), I am delighted to present Jewish Community in Action, your on-line link to the Victorian Jewish community. This exciting new JCCV initiative seeks to provide you with an insight into our community’s organisational activities and initiatives. Please pass the newsletter onto your staff, volunteers and any other interested parties.

 

Future editions will include interests such as, helping the disadvantaged, youth activities, our Zionist community, volunteer opportunities and a whole lot more. We welcome your articles, feedback and suggestions for improvement.

JCCV Adamant - Youth and Alcohol do not Mix

The JCCV has responded strongly to information that  Jewish youth as young as eleven and twelve are drinking alcohol in excessive amounts, Jewish teenage binge drinking appears to be rising and young Jewish females are drinking alcohol at a rate equal to the general teenage community.

The JCCV President, John Searle, says 'good governance is central to the operations of an effective organisation to ensure better delivery of organisational services, financial accountability, stability and security, and an organisation that is open and responsive to membership."

RCV Says NO to Domestic Violence

The Rabbinical Council of Victoria (RCV) is actively involved with the Jewish Taskforce Against Family Violence in developing programs to tackle violence against women in the community.

Jewish Care Supporting our Community

October 2010 includes Mental Health Week and Poverty Week, so Searle says "it is timely to be aware of the services offered to the Jewish Community so we can best look after ourselves, our family and friends.

Together with other Victorian Jewish organisations, the JCCV took an active role in the recent annual conference of the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria (ECCV).
