Tu B'shvat (New Year for Trees)

20 January 2011

Shevat 15 - The fifteenth day of SHEVAT marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Before the dispersion of the Jews from Israel, this day was celebrated by planting saplings. In modern Israel this custom has now been revived to help recultivate the land that had been denuded by centuries of neglect.
